Word of the Day: pareidolia

This word appeared on a documentary about the Exorcist (and the true story related to it). It was accompanied by the rather entertaining quote:

“satan is the most powerful of all the demons, he would be the CEO of the corporation.*”
Wikipedia describes it as “Pareidolia (pronounced /pærɪˈdoʊliə/) is a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant.”

So things like seeing Jesus in the bark of a tree, UFOs in clouds, and and faces on the Moon. These can all be explained by pareidolia.

Kinda disappointing for Fox Mulder. Still I suppose he’s moved on to sex and drugs now**.

*what this will do to my Google ads, I have no idea!
** and again….
